Why is coaching so popular?

How is it that coaching is so popular?

Today we live in a society that is unusual. I believe, we live in a world where we are the most actively learning generation, but also in the most resistiant towards learning.

It is funny because learning is on the first hand a painful and risky activity we get into. This is painful because you have to give up on some areas in you life, and it is also risky because it is away into the unknown field, and you don't know in advance what the new situation will be like once you have finished the activity of learning.
(Haaden, Erik de (2008), Relational Coaching, John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.)

Therefore I believe coaching is popular because people go into a coaching relationship first with a purpose to find a solution, but this solution might end another place than they expected, and this is the way it creates growth. Being scared of the unknown fields that they move into, to a place where there is much more growth and worth and value.

Just some inspiraion from some reading I have been doing lately.

It is really nice, that you write more in english :)

I have some another word for coaching, which I like a little bit more - it is the word "to guide" .. to be someone who stays near ... who listens, who gives right questions.

So - with best greetings Ivonkas older sister in Christ Jane :)

Well I am trying to get my messages to a border audience.

You are true about the word coach is to guide and to listen and trying to give good questions.

The word coach is defined in the dictionary as "a carriage with conveys individuals from where they where to where they want to be". The coach is therefore a vehicle, a way of getting from A to B, and not a person who contributed knowledge or experience and gives instructions.

It is also interesting to note that the word coach comes from the name of the hungariean village Kocs, where particulary popular type of wodden carriage was produced in the fifteenth century. Later in the mid-nineteenth century the word is used for the first time to describe a type of educator. Later it becomes to be sports coach.
Now the word coach is used to explain as transport expert or change expert, or an educator, a therapist or organisation developer..

It funny how things change or how word change.

God bless
